PRICING CARBON INITIATIVE
BACKGROUND

Doing what we do best.

Last year, we made significant progress in networking and consensus building. Our seven half-day meetings in Washington, DC, engaged over 75 participants representing 45 organizations in an unprecedented diversity of stakeholders convening on pricing carbon themes. Political pragmatism and intellectual heft characterized these candid, off-the-record discussions between environmental, Republican, business, faith-based, and environmental justice groups. We ended the year with encouraging signs of bipartisan progress, both within our growing network and on the Hill.

This year, the Pricing Carbon Initiative, a broader-based outgrowth of the Price Carbon Campaign (led by the Carbon Tax Center and the Climate Crisis Coalition for the past 4 1/2 years) is continuing on this track, engaging our network with confidential, information-sharing, consensus-building discussions, strategy meetings with key constituents, and many Hill visits. We are also planning a series of public actions, along with allied groups (including Interfaith Moral Action on Climate) that we’ll be sharing with you in the coming weeks.

Now, with the focus of our nation on executive action, our mission has a new urgency. A carbon pollution tax that also addresses tax reform and deficit gridlock is timelier than ever.

We need your assistance to effectively take advantage of this opportunity. The quicker we act, now that the President has stepped up to the plate, the more influence we can have. Please, donate what you can, so that our message gets heard: a carbon tax can simultaneously curb CO2 emissions, reduce the deficit, spark clean energy and spur economic growth.

Many thanks for your support!
